PsyTutor: Practice Tool for
a Three-Card Psycards Spread

This page displays a simple, randomly-generated, three-card Psycards spread, in conjunction with a brief description of a querent (the person for whom a reading is conducted) and a topic of interest. It is intended for study purposes, enabling Psycards readers to practice giving short readings for a variety of situations. The cards can be considered as aspects of the past, present, and future, or simply an interrelated group pertaining to the topic at hand.

To generate a new querent and Psycards spread, click the “another reading” button. For maximum benefit, these practice readings should be spoken aloud, as they would be in a normal setting.

Psycards have proven to be a reliable, effective, and engaging alternative to Tarot: they are novel, lack the occult overtones that many find objectionable, and embody a more contemporary, Jungian-symbolism-like approach to the delivery of readings. The Psycards pack was conceived and designed during 1981–1982 by Nick Hobson, and illustrated by Maggie Kneen, a British illustrator and student of Anglo-Saxon and Celtic art, decoration, and symbolism.

Two good books are available to inform the Psycards reader. Nick Hobson’s own The PSY•CARDS Book (also available as a package with the Psycards pack) provides a unique author’s perspective on the design of the symbolic system. And the excellent—albeit more difficult to find—Language of the Psycards, by the late Berènîcé Watt, offers the depth and insight that are only available to a reknowned reader of many years’ experience.
